Sandra Hughes

September 20, 1946 — June 24, 2024

Sandy (Wright) Hughes, 77, passed away on June 24, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon from a short battle with a rare neurological disease. She was born on September 20, 1946, in Oakland, California to Gordon and Rose Wright.

Sandy spent her youth in the California Bay Area with her lifelong best friend Judy before settling in Alameda where she had three daughters before meeting her husband of 48 years, Scott Hughes. They moved to Lake Tahoe where they had a son and lived for ten years. As the kids got older, they moved to Eugene to be closer to family.

Sandy worked in banking and real estate along with being a small business owner. In retirement she helped with local organizations supporting the troops, took many road trips across the country with her husband and cared for her grandchildren. When she wasn’t caring for her family or going on adventures with her dear friends, she was always looking for the next project to put her creative touch on, whether at her cabin or a piece of furniture. There was not a garage sale, secondhand store or “free” sign on the side of the road that she passed up without looking for a potential next project.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Scott Hughes; children, Kim Hughes, TJ VanWye, and Adam Hughes; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Hughes, granddaughter, Samantha Peard, and brother, Gordon Wright. A service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held at Laurelwood Golf Course on August 24th at noon. The family invites all who knew Sandy to join them in honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center
