Orville Boyd (OB) Wray, Jr. (1941-2024)
Orville Boyd (OB aka “Dobber”) Wray, Jr., age 83, of Eugene, Oregon, passed away on September 21, 2024 due to causes related to age.
He was born in Lindsay, California on May 26, 1941 to parents Violet Frances (Ashton) Olson and Orville Boyd Wray, Sr. During his teen years he won several medals & trophies for his expert marksmanship with firearms.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1959 and served aboard the U.S.S. Bainbridge Naval Carrier for 4 years as a Radio Mechanic and Sharpshooter, during which time he received the FIRST Award of the Good Conduct Medal for services. Following his release from Selective Service, he moved to Oregon and worked as a Sheriff, a Security Officer and a USPS City Carrier until his retirement in 1976 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
OB loved music and was a skilled musician, playing the guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica. He also enjoyed camping, hunting (loading his own ammunition), fishing, and mushroom foraging. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
OB is survived by his sister, Vera Ilene Young, and children from his previous marriage to Maria Oliver: twin daughters, Cathleen Crafts and Karen Oliver; and his sons, Eric Wray and Rodolfo (Rod) Wray; also, numerous grand and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene (Lee) Wray and his daughter, Carman Wray.
A Memorial Service, including a Military Funeral Salute, will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 550 N. Danebo Avenue, Eugene, OR 97402. Arrangements provided by Andreason’s Cremation Burial Services.
