Melbalee Schug

Melbalee Schug, age 92, passed away peacefully in Eugene, OR, on July 10, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Melbalee was born January 9, 1932, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and lived in Colorado for 91 years. As a working mother in the 1960s, Melbalee sold clothing at Tieman’s, Marion’s, and Montgomery Ward. Her effervescent and outgoing personality made her a top salesperson at all of her employers. In 1974, she married the love of her life, Harland “H.K.” Schug, Jr. They were married for 49 years until his passing on July 12, 2023. For many years, Melbalee also took pride in being a caregiver to her in-laws, Ruby and Harland Schug, Sr.

Melbalee is survived by her daughter, Sherry (David) Beaver, of Eugene, OR, and her niece Marla (Marvin) Dickson of Wray, CO. She is predeceased by her husband, H.K Schug, and her daughter, Connie McGraw. Melbalee and H.K. shared nine grandchildren: Charla Dury; Colin McGraw; Gracie (Stephen) Kairis; Ashley Weimer; Segrid (Christopher) Licata; Conrad Schaefer; Cody Sloan; Casey (Megan) Sloan; Chad (Allie) Sloan; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Melbalee was a social butterfly who made friends and set trends wherever she went. She will always be beloved and remembered for her unparalleled sense of style, her abundant creativity, and the deep love she had for her family.
