Leon Scott Matthews passed peacefully after a short illness on December 06, 2024 at his long-time home in Springfield, OR with his wife Janice and his children Christopher and Jessica at his side.
Leon was born on March 18, 1946 in Alplaus, New York and attended both Niskayuna and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school systems.
Lee is predeceased by his parents Ann and Chester L. Matthews, Sr. Those who survive include Janice, his wife of 45 years, and his four children, Scott, Neil, Christopher and Jessica. His grandchildren are Katelyn, Brooke, Scottie, Steven, Dawn and his special fishing buddy, Jaxon. Leon is also survived by his siblings Jeanne, Chet Jr., James and John as well as great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Leon was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1969 and spent many happy years in the Florida Keys before moving to Oregon. He maintains many special friendships from his years working in the food industry in Islamorada, a spectacular island in the Florida Keys. Janice and Lee met, married and started their family in that tropical paradise.
In addition to spending time with his family, Lee loved his gardens and backyard, and his special love was fishing in the beautiful rivers and high lakes of the Pacific Northwest. Another of his talents was cooking gourmet dishes and the salmon that he caught on his fishing line for grateful family and friends.
At the family’s request, there will be no service.
