Kathryn Alice Ruttencutter née Thompson, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Oregon, passed away at the age of 98, Monday, September 2, 2024 in Bend, Oregon. She is survived by her six children, Lauretta Davies and Phyllis Wallace of Bend, Oregon, Rosalie Risler of Kelowna, B.C., Valerie Anderson of Monitor, Oregon, and Earl and John Ruttencutter of LaPine, Oregon. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and nine nieces.
Kathryn was born June 14, 1926, the younger sister of Lawrence Thompson and the daughter of Earl Nelson Thompson and Alice Laurette Thompson née Kieran. She was raised in Springfield and attended Lincoln Elementary and Springfield High School. Kathryn worked various jobs including the Lane County Surveyors Office and Weyerhaeuser. She married Lee Martin Ruttencutter August 23, 1952 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield, Kathryn’s family parish.
The couple lived their entire married life in Springfield. In 1972 Kathryn took a job in the Records Office at Springfield High School where she worked until her retirement in 1991. At the high school she was well known for her creativity and humor. Lee and Kathryn were part of the Mossbacks Volksport Club and Kathryn greatly enjoyed pottery and other classes at Willamalane Adult Activity Center. Kathryn was a faithful volunteer many years at the Christmas Festival of Trees at the Valley River Inn. She also served as a polling monitor during elections.
After Lee’s death in 1995 Kathryn moved to Poltava St. in Springfield, where she lived until her move to Garden Way Retirement Community in 2016. In 2021 Kathryn moved to LaPine, where she spent her final years. She was well loved by all her children and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Alice Community Hall, 1520 E. Street, Springfield, OR, 2:30 to 4:30 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2024.
